Review: Beautycounter Skin Twin Featherweight Foundation

As you may know, my skin can't handle fragrance, common irritants, and most botanical ingredients. So you can probably guess that finding a foundation has been, well, impossible...

Thank goodness for bareMinerals Original Loose Powder Foundation with SPF 15 for getting me through my adult years. But as much as I love that powder foundation, it does cake and migrate easily on my face. As an actor/singer/dancer, this just doesn't cut it when I'm in a show. But I've had no other choice until this point, except to run by the mirror in between scenes and check that my face is intact.

Fast forward to 2020 when Beautycounter rolled out Skin Twin Featherweight Foundation. Not gonna lie, given their Dew Skin Tinted Moisturizer is chock-full of plant oils and extracts (Rose Flower Oil, I'm looking at you), I wasn't hopeful about Skin Tint. Imagine my shock when I looked down their ingredients list and...got through the end without any big red flags. How could this be? And it's EWG verified too?! What the what?

So yeah, I was excited to get this in the mail.

And you know what's great about this foundation? It lived up to my expectations. Although I botched my first attempt at getting the right color (Medium 350 was too orangey for me), I nailed it with Medium 340. I have medium olive skin, and it blended in really well. I was a little worried as #340 is marketed as a "neutral" color, but it worked for my olive undertones.

Pros:
  • A little goes a long way
  • Good coverage without looking unnatural
  • Hyaluronic acid makes the formula feel nice on the skin, and keeps it looking dewy and youthful
  • Stays put and lasting wear
  • Made with quality, well-sourced ingredients. Exemplary clean beauty product.
Cons:
  • Without primer, can cling to dead skin (nose pores and chin for me). But hate to say, that's every foundation I've ever encountered.
  • If you're looking for a matte finish, setting powder is necessary
  • Price of $45 a little steep

Overall, I'm so relieved that this product exists! My next wish is for Beautycounter to create a tinted moisturizer with the same clean profile as Skin Twin. And better yet, if someone can create a version of Glossier's Perfecting Skin Tint that doesn't make my skin catch on fire within 10 minutes that would be great.

So tell me, have you tried Skin Twin? Have you found another great fragrance-free foundation or tinted moisturizer?
